XCU Exclusion

An exclusion for property damage from explosion, collapse or underground work. It appears on some contractor general liability policies, and many owners ask that it not apply.

What it means for your firm

Consulting engineers and architects usually carry general liability written for office and site-visit exposure, which often does not include this exclusion at all.

When a requirement says 'no XCU exclusion,' the answer is usually a confirmation from the insurer of what the policy does and does not contain. A certificate alone cannot show it.
