Insurance for Industrial & Process Engineers
Coverage for process, nuclear, chemical and manufacturing engineers.
Plants run on your process designs, safety studies and control logic. A mistake can stop production or cause an incident, and both carry large losses.
How Risk Shows Up in Process Engineering
Safety studies
Hazard reviews and safety analyses are relied on to prevent incidents. They get close attention afterward.
Controls and automation
Control logic and automation design can blur the line between engineering and technology work.
Nuclear work
Many policies exclude nuclear exposure. Firms in this sector need specialized placement.
Production losses
Downtime at a plant can make a small error very expensive.
The Stack Most Industrial & Process Engineers Carry.
Owner contracts ask for high limits, and work abroad needs the right territory.
Hover a layer to see what it covers. Every firm is different, so treat this as a starting point.
Carriers Don’t Always Understand What You Do.
Engineers who work on mines, plants and energy projects often get quoted like the contractors who build them. Your exposure is the advice and analysis, not the construction.
When the work is misread
- Placed on a contractor or industrial form instead of professional liability
- Premium rated on project or plant values instead of your fees
- Failure analysis and expert work left out of the policy
- Pollution and site exposure excluded without anyone noticing
How we submit your firm
- Your engineering, inspection and analysis work described precisely
- Revenue shown as fees for the work you actually do
- Carriers that understand industrial and energy engineering
- Pollution and site conditions reviewed against your contracts
Questions We Hear From Industrial & Process Engineers.
Industrial firms ask about high limits, work outside the US and equipment that fails after start-up.
Answers are general. Your policy and your contract always control.
Ask yours on a 15-minute callThe owner requires $5M or more of professional liability.
Industrial owners often ask for high limits. The usual options are an excess professional layer or a project policy. We price both so you can compare.
We work outside the US.
Many policies limit where coverage applies or where suits can be brought. Tell us where the work is and where the client is based.
Equipment failed and they say it was our design.
Report it promptly. Design claims on process systems can be large, and early notice matters on a claims-made policy.
My client sent insurance wording for the certificate. Is this normal?
Usually, yes. Additional insured, waiver of subrogation, primary and non-contributory and 30-day notice show up in most owner and builder contracts. Many business policies include blanket wording that applies when a written contract requires it. We check the contract against your actual endorsements before the certificate goes out.
