Sublimit

A smaller limit for one type of loss inside a policy's main limit.

What it means for your firm

A policy can show a $1M limit while paying no more than $250K for a specific loss, such as social engineering. That $250K is a sublimit.

Sublimits usually count toward the main aggregate limit, not on top of it, unless the policy says otherwise.

General definition for education only. It is not an interpretation of any policy or contract, and it is not legal advice. The wording of your own policy and contract controls. Policies and definitions vary by insurance company.
